Holiday Gift Box Contest!

Hey Creators,

The Holidays are almost upon us.

Our gift to you is an opportunity to participate in weekly tutorial sessions with Creator community member Jazzkat through December 31. JazzKat will be sharing these tutorials via livestream on Twitch to show you how to use the free software Blender to create gift boxes to use in IMVU.

The basics:

Creators should enter the contest by deriving from the following product:  http://fr.imvu.com/shop/product.php?products_id=39762095  or a derivation of that product and make sure their entry is a piece of furniture in the new category “Holiday Contest 2017”.

Entries may include a gift box(es), simple or complex, your original mesh or derived from one of the derivable products in this category.

To enter the contest, please submit a gift box(es)furniture product to the new “Holiday Contest 2017” category of the catalog between Dec 5 and Dec 31, 2017.

Submissions should be new to the catalog.

You may submit items to this category that other Creators can use to make their own contest entries, but they should still be derived from product http://fr.imvu.com/shop/product.php?products_id=39762095

Anything that is not a gift box will be removed.

Do not use COPYRIGHT or TRADEMARK textures, please make your own!

Anything not part of this contest will be removed from the Holiday Contest 2017 category

You may submit meshes for others to derive from and still submit your own separate entry

There is no limit to how many times you can enter. If we receive an overwhelming number of entries, we may revise this rule. :)

Now Our FBX Importer is Even Better!

Hello Creators,

We hope you have been enjoying the FBX importer tool while we have been working hard to build more features for it. Today, we are excited to announce our latest update - a faster and more efficient way to import 3Ds Max files!  We know the pain our 3Ds Max users have endured in exporting and importing all your files separately and we know that you will benefit greatly from trying the newly supported FBX method. We also recommend trying FBX if you’re using one of the latest versions of 3Ds Max and find Cal3d isn’t working for you.

If you have the most recent build of the client, you will now have more features than ever for  FBX for Blender and 3Ds Max.  If you don’t use either of these 3D programs, we’re happy to inform you that we’ve made some improvements to importing SketchUp and Maya FBX files. We encourage you to try FBX from any platform you normally use and let us know if you encounter any errors. (Please send any files/info/screenshots to creator.advocate@imvu.com, the more info the better!)

For the latest version of our FBX importer, please go to http://fr.imvu.com/download.php and download the very latest version of the Client. This version is usually newer than what you are prompted to download when you run IMVU, and will give you the most up-to-date features, functionality and support for FBX. If you have any trouble, please send us an email.

Coming soon: Fbx for 3ds Max!

Dear Creators,

We are about to release support for FBX for 3ds Max and we’re super excited!

If you’ve upgraded to the latest version of 3ds Max, you’ve probably experienced the Cal3d exporters not working properly. If you haven’t upgraded, you are probably tired of importing each file out of 3ds Max and into Create separately. Either way, we know you’ll be really pleased with this new option.

FBX importer now live in Create!

Hello Creators!

Today I am pleased to announce that we’ve just released our FBX Import tool.

At IMVU we are eager to expand our Creator tools to provide more features that are not only easier to use, but also available to everyone.. By providing support for FBX files, you now have a way to import multiple materials, meshes and animations in one shot, rather than fighting with each and every component of your product one at a time. (.xmf, .xsf, .xpf, etc).

At this time, we are releasing FBX for files that were created in Blender, a community-driven open source 3D creation suite that’s actively maintained and updated. Even better, Blender is FREE. Our goal at IMVU is to ensure that the Creator experience is low cost, user friendly, and accessible to everyone. With Blender in place, Creators can import clothes, accessories, furniture and rooms with a single import. For example, if you have a room built with 40 mesh pieces, 70 textures and 12 special poses or animations, you can import everything into IMVU in a single FBX instead of exporting and importing them one by one.  This will save you lots of time as you test and revise your large IMVU product.

Even with Blender there is more functionality that we plan to add to your experience to make it better. However, we decided to bring you on board now so that we can get your feedback on the first phase.  Your input is what helps us tailor the experience to your needs and helps us make decisions on what else to add to Blender.We have already worked with some of our Creators in our Alpha phase, with great success. (Special thanks to JazzKat for all his expertise and help! Thanks also to DimitriX89, Roy, Polystyrene, and everyone else in our FBX beta test group.)

If you aren’t a user of the free 3D modeling program Blender already, now is the time to get started!

Here are some great Blender tutorials from IMVU Creator JazzKat  that will take you from first steps in Blender to importing your creations into IMVU.  You can also find them on the new IMVU Creator playlist on YouTube.

The FBX tool should show up as a tab on your Create Panel once you download the latest Client build. At this time, you will not be prompted to download it automatically, but will have to go to http://fr.imvu.com/download.php and download and install the latest Client. Looking for a few more Halloween Showcase creators

Hello Creators!

As you are probably aware, next month is October, one of the most fun times to be a Creator! We are currently getting ready for the Halloween Showcase in the Shop and we are looking to feature some of the best and most prolific Halloween Creators.

If you would like to be considered for this Showcase, which will run the entire month of October, please submit your application to creator.showcase@imvu.com and attach a few pictures of your work along with some links to your best costume work in the catalog. We are looking for both Male and Female clothing Creators and this includes those who do skins/heads/makeup!

Coming Soon: FBX Importer for Blender

Hello Creators!

At IMVU we are eager to expand our Creator tools to provide more features and to make it accessible to more people. To that end, we are about to release the new FBX Import tool. By providing support for FBX files, you now have a way to import multiple materials, meshes and animations in one shot, rather than fighting with each and every component of your product one at a time. We have decided to roll out this functionality in phases, to get pieces of it to you sooner. This is provided IN ADDITION to the existing functionality and does not impact your old way of doing things. (Long live 3D Studio Max.)

The first phase is focused on FBX files that were created in Blender, a community-driven open source 3D creation suite that is driven largely by its users who are free to make small and large changes to the code base, leading to new features, responsive bug fixes, and better usability. Even better, Blender has no price tag. Our goal at IMVU is to ensure that Blender can be used to import clothes, accessories, furniture and rooms with a single import. For example, if you have a room built with 40 mesh pieces you can import all those meshes into IMVU in a single FBX instead of exporting and importing them one by one.  This will save you lots of time as you test and revise your large IMVU product.

We plan to support more than Blender. As we get your feedback on the features and functionality we will be working to support FBX files that were created in 3D Studio Max, Maya, Sketchup and other tools. (In theory those should all work now, but we have found that most tools use this “standard” format a little differently. Feel free to try non-blender FBX files at your own risk.)

Even with Blender there is more functionality we think we should add to make the experience better. However, we want to get you engaged sooner, rather than waiting for everything to be done. Your feedback and input is desired. We have already worked with some of our Creators in our Alpha phase, with great success. (Special thanks to JazzKat for all his expertise and help!)

Regarding Client Build 532.0

Hey Creators, with the client update that was released on 7/20/17, you may have noticed a new section in the Meshes panel called “Texture Morph”. This was added unintentionally and is not a new feature or an upcoming feature - if you attempt to use this feature it won’t do anything. We’re pretty sure you can’t break anything by messing around with it, but we recommend you just leave it alone. When our next build comes out, this will be removed.
